Reeves to reveal plans for ‘world first’ private stock market Pisces

News Flash

The government will set out its plans for a “world first” private stock market regime today in a bid to revive the UK’s flagging IPO pipeline, City AM revealed yesterday.

At her maiden Mansion House speech in the City, the Chancellor Rachel Reeves will reveal proposals to legislate in May next year for a regulated stock exchange system called PISCES, where investors can trade shares in private companies, Treasury sources said.

This means companies and support infrastructure have only got 6 months before PISCES can go live. Are you ready for PISCES?

PISCES is an important development for unlisted companies to recruit and retain staff and reward their employees through equity incentives, among other benefits of a share trading platform.

PISCES – the Private Intermittent Securities and Capital Exchange System – was dreamt up by the previous government as part of efforts to revive UK equity markets.

PISCES will allow trading in unlisted shares on a defined basis yet to be developed fully. The aim is to promote the UK as a good place for fostering company growth and achieving full listed company status, as reported below.

Overall, the establishment of PISCES could lead to significant changes in how private securities are traded and capital is raised, impacting various stakeholders in the financial ecosystem.

CORPGRO responded to the consultation document issued by the Sunak Conservative Government in April 2024. Since then CORPGRO have been working closely with the LSE, ESOP Centre and PwC among others on how PISCES will significantly impact employee share plans and equity incentives.
